It is across the street from the site of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 1980 Winter Olympics and backs up to the farm of abolitionist John Brown . In 1920, the Lake Placid Club built the first 35 meter ski jump in Lake Placid, using a hillside itself as the jump surface. In 1921, the first competition was held there, drawing a crowd of 3,000.
